SecDef Hegseth spilled the beans on Signal providing timing of his well-designed retaliatory attack on Yemen. Like Babe Ruth pointing out where he was going to hit the ball out of the park the Secretary of Defense described for his party conference on Signal the timing and location of the impending successful American strike to degrade the capacity of Houthi terrorists to attack free shipping in the approach to the Suez canal/Red Sea, Israel and other locations with missiles and drones. Yemen launched a hypersonic missile to attack Israel June 19, 2024 and a day or two ago. https://trt.global/world/article/3edeb1dfef9c
Such advanced weapons were supplied manufactured by the Houthis themselves, perhaps with support from Iran. A website says the Palestine-2 missile travels at Mach 16 speed. That seems a bit fast. Mach 6 is more probable. https://armyrecognition.com/military-products/army/missiles/hypersonic-missiles/palestine-2-hypersonic-missile
Any use of social media tools for secure defense purposes is a bad idea unless one wants to leak information. Even Starlink if it chose to do so might be able to monitor Ukraine’s military communications on its system and provide that content to the Russian military if Ukraine continued to be non-compliant with following President Trump’s peace initiative criterion. Using signal and including an Atlantic reporter on the list of people sharing the data was surreptitious bragging or an example of why not to trust the internet with defense secrets; even encrypted open-source sites like Signal. https://signal.org/
