Ranked Forced Choice Voting Up Again on Alaska Prop 2

Proposition 2 on the November 3rd election ballot will give voters another chance to get rid of the onerous forced choice ranking multiple candidates for office. Gaming the voting system is corrupt. Voters are forced to rank candidates preferentially making it not enough to simply vote for one candidate. Failing to rank candidates- as if voters know everything about additional candidates in an election rather than just one they like or feel is the least offensive candidate most unlikely to f up the state and nation in comparison to the others, works to elect one of the other candidates when the rankings are tallied.

The proposition is packed with another controversial issue; one about unlimited campaign donations and revealing the source. Because there is so much wealth globally that likes to invest in campaign spending to manipulate results there are some that want to cap donations or make sure that the source in every case is known. On a practical basis it probably doesn’t make a difference. There are sufficient millionaires on each side of party contests to pay for saturating the internet with bad commercials in support of their entry in the race.

The Sullivan-Peltola U.S. Senate race so far has mostly been about dirty politics and smears. The Peltola people- billionaires from California some have said has repeated a deception ad nauseum about Sullivan voting to hide the Epstein files, with smears about rape of children thrown in with it. The fact is that Sullivan voted with other Republicans against a defense bill that had the Epstein release as a rider on the bill because the Republicans wanted a clean bill. When the Epstein file release bill was advanced as an issue for-itself Sullivan voted for the release.

The issue of fishing appears to be the primary issue for Peltola. Ocean temperatures are becoming too warm for salmon, and of course the farther north one goes the warmer the effects of global warming are. The Yukon river is nearly too warm for salmon in summer these days. And there is lots of international interception of fish, as well as the chronic over-fishing by Alaskans with an unwillingness to simply have moratorium years to allow salmon stocks a time for full recovery. With so many chemicals in the ocean soup it is debatable that anyone should be unconcerned about the healthiness of wild fish. Ocean reefs are growing with microplastics in them- evolution. Sullivan has at least supported law enforcement on the oceans with drone surveillance technology at sea. One may pass innumerable laws yet without the ability to enforce laws they are mostly symbolic.

With two female Democrats in the U.S. Senate from Alaska (Lisa Murkowski uses ranked choice voting to get elected as an independent who tends to vote Democrat on important issues) the west coast states do look rather leftist and soft on border security etc. Sullivan may not be an ideal candidate, however he is at least not a member of the treason party. Voters that want to vote for an Alaska native female have an alternative opportunity in the race for Governor this year. Bernadette Wilson is part Aleut and an Alaska native and may capture the office.

Alaska Ranked Choice Voting; Sullivan vs Sullivan vs Peltola

Alaska has a Byzantine, convoluted ranked choice voting election system that confuses the allocation of fractional shares of votes to various candidates one hasn’t really voted for. That is, there is a penalty for not listing candidates in order as if one approved of all candidates except the one ranked last. The system is comparable to buying shares in a time share condo with some kind of ranked choice about occupancy or roles in responsibility for meeting home owner criteria.

There are innumerable internet experiences equally as frustrating as ranked choice voting such as logging unto a site to buy a product and finding a myriad of screens arising that take one away from what one wanted to do. Maybe ranked choice is perhaps comparable to spinning the wheel at Temu when one wanted to buy a solar panel. I would guess the clan might have enjoyed the ranked choice system in the reconstructionist south if that sort of thing had occurred to them.

Democrats have some trouble winning major elections in Alaska and hoped to improve their wining percentage with ranked choice voting. This year incumbent U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan running against Mary Peltola- Democrat challenger, will also face competition with a 5th grade school teacher named Dan Sullivan. The ambiguity created for some voters regarding which Dan Sullivan is the real Dan Sullivan, as well as how to rank the Dan Sullivans in light of the algorithm of rank choices they don’t understand, is deplorable yet understandably corrupting if one care about democracy being plain and simple.
