With the idea of dividing votes for Senator Dan Sullivan running for re-election against Democrat Mary Peltola, her campaign helped invent and recruit extra Dan Sullivans to enter the campaign. Especially with the haywired ranked choice voting system in effect in Alaska indefinitely, the Sullivan campaign stands to lose a lot of votes due to voter confusion.
I cannot say what the best way would be to rank votes in the Senate campaign in order to help one's own candidate. If one for instance were voting for Sen Sullivan should they vote Sullivan the Senator first, then Sullivan the doppelganger second, and a possible third Dan Sullivan in the race third? Is it better to leave off Peltola altogether or to place her fourth in order to defend the first place candidate of choice.
Ranked choice voting mass confusion is up for a vote itself in proposition 2. One would vote for Prop 2 if they want just one vote per election contest without casting additional votes for 'ranking'.
In 2010 the Anchorage Daily news endorsed Lisa Murkowski because Joe Miller- who had won the Republican primary, was found to have voted for himself in a union election two or three times. I wonder of that paper will feel and equal moral responsibility to endorse Senator Sullivan this time since the Peltola campaign was also found to be colluding to rig the election by sewing voter confusion.
