President Trump cancelled the live broadcast execution of former Army Major psychiatrist Nidal Hasan who killed thirteen people on the Ft. Hood military base a few years ago. Sensitive potential viewers objected and thus he cancelled the public justice event.
Cancelling the broadcast may have been a good thing; If that had gone forward some states might have emulated and started a pay per view public execution of the week or month. Actions follow the money- states cloning lotteries once the immorality of gambling became the norm.
While the supply of prisoners on death row available for public execution is large, if the practice became popular and began bringing in as much revenue as college football, the states may have required drafting more people with death sentences to satisfy the demand by increasing supply. Compliant judges could have imposed more death sentences in order to keep death row full with new content for broadcasting.
