Canada becoming a member of the European Union as an associate member was welcomed by P.M. Carney. He said that a majority of Canadians would like to be (in effect) vassals of Europe. Strategically that would create some challenges for the United States that think tanks will need to game.
It was an unexpected turn. Canadians may feel insecure enough to seek a foreign boss, yet Canada becoming an associate member of the E.U. would convert that nation into a North American fifth column virtual domestic threat to U.S. national security. It would be like having a northern super-Cuba empowered by all of the European nations that have in the past been at war with the United States and only stopped because of U.S. military superiority. Germany only stopped warring on the world or implementing the final solution because of the fact that they lost two wars. Britain was an adversary until they no longer could survive losing the first world war without U.S. help. France was generally neutral during the Cold War in order to play dead from the Soviet nuclear threat.
In the long run the United States may need to withdraw entirely from N.A.T.O. as building up what is obviously Europe’s top military branch would be counterproductive for the U.S.A. N.A.T.O.has transformed into Europe’s military since the end of the Cold War that Europe refused to recognize and balance effectively with historical Russia.
In my opinion- my best guess, is that U.S. policy will eventually form an economic union with western nations and Russia in order to contain Canada and the E.U. from further encroachment. Flipping Canada back into a U.S. and Russian economic union would alleviate the E.U. 's blatant course for strategic global dominance. The E.U. will sek a tacit relationship with the BRIC nations and Canada to overcome American independence.
Who can say; perhaps solar system exploration and settlement will overcome the traditional European quest for economic Lebensraum. The United States basically defeated royalty, fascism and communism historically. Europe during that time was a bloody mess. The United States presently has the problem of concentration of wealth overcoming its history of neo-egalitarianism. And of course there were and are always werewolves loyal to defeated political forms of the past seeking a political conquest of the U.S.A. and the world. Political wisdom is requisite for the continuity of an egalitarian, prosperous, ecospherically healthy republic/democracy in the shoals of global politics today.
