N.A.S.A. is supposed to be about space and exploration. Scientific leaders of N.A.S.A. since the last lunar mission put a man on the moon in 1972 haven't been able to get it done. Pres. Trump's pick for the new N.A.S.A. chief will, hopefulyl swiftly get a lunar science research base built with a permanent human presence there.

Jim Bridenstein is a pilot and politician and that is different than a Phd in Big Bang and inflation theory. Yet a practical approach might be what is need. After all, he can do no worse than make it 50 years since Gene Cernan left the moon.
The moon is a practical and better place to start planetary missions to Mars and anywhere in the solar system than the Earth. The moon probably willl eventually be a new skunk works for creative spacecraft builders and farmers.
In 2024 the ISS will become surplus junk that only Paul Allen, Elon Musk, the Chinese or the Russians could love. The United States needs to have a potato-growing scientific and industry base in a shallow lunar crate where any right-thinking pioneer could build into the perimeter walls. The new N.A.S.A. chief should co-ordinate the international build up of a permanent scientific-industrial research facility that could in time be self-sustaining.

Every quality Arctic explorer that did well understood the concept of advanced support bases, as have explorers and settlers anyplace. They did not just build remote-controlled and disposable exploration tools to send back information. Instead, they were eager to go themselves and get something done.
