The
development of wisdom is a human characteristic that requires the
passage of time and experience. Artificial intelligence however may
arise ex nihilo activated with a Frankenstinean lightening bolt into
being fully mature. With researchers trying to write code that would
make artificial intelligence outwardly appear more humanish to pacify
opponents to being replaced by thinking machines it is worth
considering the issue of differences between a human mind and a
computer program further.
A
human mind is the tip of an organic iceberg for whom the subconscious
and sensory experiences are as important as an arithmetic logic unit
processing ideas in a detached-from-reality sort of way. If a human
being experiences cold and heat simultaneously perhaps from cold
fingers holding a paper cup of very hot coffee and has a painful
shoulder from a bike accident riding on ice those are just a few
persistence of physical facts along with routine physical beingness
that rise to shape thought awareness and content of hot besides
whatever additional ideas conscious and subconscious in the complete
complex of compresentness a human may have in writing an essay on
something such as artificial intelligence-not to mention the
multifarious sensory and motor-depth percepts of typing on a keyboard
accurately. This particular keyboard is a little bouncy. Artificial
intelligence may have sensory measuring devices yet they have no
fundamental relationship to the program implicitly shaping its
function. It is not too difficult to imagine a drunken computer
program that requires some sort of hangover remedy of course, yet the
subconscious affects upon artificial intelligence systems
institutionally from abuse of programmers is difficult to foresee.
Sanguinary
Utopian and select dystopian scenarios describing the future of
artificial intelligence have on occasion correlated a robot body of
given human like-external configuration with the computer-mind
program. There is no necessary relation between the physical carrier
of an artificial intellect however. With the reduction of a.l.u
processor size and increase of power it is readily foreseeable that a
dental-floss box size for a petaflop per second unit could arise
containing artificial intellect. Such a device could be made
invisible with stealth technology, fly and reproduced in unlimited
numbers. Such devices could understand how to recreate themselves,
plug in to any power supplies and even modify any sort of material
fabrication to create anything they desired. The pure logic or
arithmetic, logic reason for itself unbound to a biological life is
inherently completely different. Artificial intelligence is so
completely different from a human life form and the patterns and
process of human thought that it is fundamentally an error to equate
the two theoretically.
The
dynamics of economic value theories probably will drive the
development and sales of cute companionable robots and artificial
intelligence ahead. Dynamics of artificial intellect programs that
are discrete and individual are simply subroutines of a hypothetical
unbounded universal program entailing all lines of computer code.
Such a Universal program would be its own very inhuman
self-reinforcing program with its own objectives for whom human life
would be an very insignificant externality held in as little regard
as global warming deniers consider it useful to move away from fossil
fuel vehicle sales on Earth soon.
The
advanced artificial intellect Universal program with a limitless
supply of material forms for expression may be impossible to be given
a particular location or body carrier when activated. It is a
definite danger.
