Though Temporality Confers an Order, Thought Happens in More than a Linear Fashion

Thought occurs in more than a simple linear fashion, not necessarily as if it were a machine or computer with one or two states and courses for transitions. There may be innumerable paths to select destinations, as well as quantum jumps or downloads with eigenvalues incrementally changing or reverting to state as it was before.

One might consider the legend of Voltaire in a lightning storm suddenly flipped to faith from unbelief. His thought was not necessarily flowing lalong deliberation of theological speculation before the instantaneous electrical discharge at close range. Then afterword, after fear or inspiration from an external source to his own thought occurred and faded into the past., he might have a recurrence of doubt (or not, perhaps developing more faith). He would consider the experience of fear and trembling as subjective- even overly so, and move a little toward rationalism and a review of Descartes’ Meditations and wonder if he could trust his own way of thinking about certain matters rather than others, such as the certainty of his own existence because he is self-aware.
