Two
recent issues in the news caught my attention, so I thought I would
comment on them.
First
is the Clinton-Obama labor day palaver on unionism. The fact is that
the Obama-Clinton administration enacted worst-case for U.S. labor
unions policy consistently. Supporting illegal immigration and cheap
migrant labor harms unions. cutting taxes on the rich as President
Obama did hurt unions. The third leg of Obama-Clinton anti-unionism
was support for outsourcing more jobs to China with policy that
develops the Chinese rather than U.S. economy.
Second
is U.S. forest service logging policy in S.E. Alaska where most of
the old growth forest is being cut. They are considering letting
logging reach within 200 feet of the critical waterfront areas of the
forest. Instead of point out the environmental idiocy of that policy,
I would merely say that the better solution is to halt all logging in
S.E. Alaska and instead hire all the loggers that have worked in that
activity five years to Federal jobs that don’t have anything to do
with logging, and fire an equivalent number of federal workers
someplace else to keep the budget in balance.
Loggers
aren’t all a bunch of yippee Neanderthals seeking to bring the
environment to ruin-they are capable of learning federal jobs such as
supporting home schooling program with training, or building shelters
for homeless people around the nation.
Third
and last is the Vatican policy to liberalize annulment; its not that
annulment is so bad, what interested me is the Catholic doctrine that
does not allow divorce, though Jesus Christ said that in cases of
adultery (and I suppose having sex with a minor too- that might be
called childultery might entail jailery as well), because of the
hardness of hearts divorce is permissible.
Why
does the Vatican seem to have a policy that is in direct
contradiction of instruction of the Lord? Is it a 1302 unam
sanctam
papal bull kind of thing?
Jesus
Christ said ( in the book of Matthew verses 5: 31-32
);
"
It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give
her a writing of divorcement: But I say unto you, That whosoever
shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth
her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is
divorced committeth adultery."
Bonus Hoot!
The
U.S. Government selective service is running implicitly chauvinist
radio advertisements proving the point that affirmative action is
applied only where it gives an advantage to the majority (women,
non-whites and homosexuals).
In
the ad, over the sound of a flying aircraft, the man says; "Are
you guys ready to jump out of a perfectly good airplane and become
men?". Registering for selective service in some way is like a
bar mitzvah evidently.
The
man does not say; "Are you girls willing to jump out of a
perfectly good aircraft and become women?"Neither does he say;
"Are you people ready to jump out of a perfectly good aircraft
and become queers?" Also absent is the question; "Are you
troubled people willing to jump out of a perfectly good aircraft and
become transgendered?"
After
I had made my first parachute jump from 7000 feet I stood on the
ground looking up at a tiny women free falling from 10,000 feet to
make a perfectly good low-altitude opening. If women are perfectly
good skydivers to, then American manhood must mean something else
than a gender monopoly on courage. Perhaps to the U.S. Government it
means becoming a dumb animal registered for the military meat grinder
in order to defend the women from ISIS and other savage hordes. If
that is the position it may be o.k.-yet it is a blatant exception to
the chauvinism that is described as virtually bigotry if it is used
anywhere else in government that confer more harm than good.
