It is hard to imagine that anyone wonders why American policemen carry weapons, yet some do. The state has the right, the sole legal right, to use condign power. Law enforcement requires the ability to enforce laws. It would be nearly impossible to enforce laws in the U.S.A by an unarmed police force. It is an awesome thing to think about though. The Westminster standards on magistracy allows legal force. If only the military had weapons and police and civilians were disarmed such that just criminals would have guns government dictatorship would be effortlessly evolved. I think that a balance of power continuum such that police could revolt with citizens against corrupt government and military junta are good safeguards to keep in place..one never knows what powers can coup the executive branch. Citizens have a right to print and bear arms. Guns are very easy to manufacture and even print out from a 3D printer, it doesn't seem fair to give a disadvantage to law enforcers of honest laws.
