Weapons
design has changed quite a lot with modern technological changes.
Small arms such as pistols and long guns traditionally have been
forged and fired cast bullets with gun-powder. Reagan's Strategic
Defense Initiative developed electro-magnetic accelerators to launch
smart pebbles and that paradigm was applied to make emg pistols,
rifles and even cannon. The invention of 3D materials printers is
another paradigm shift for small arms manufacture.
Not
only can 3d printers be used to manufacture weapons designs in
innumerable forms, they can also be made part of the weapons
themselves bringing the prospect of manufacturing any caliber of
ammunition a weapon requires from a supply of material in the field
along with the capacity to manufacture a barrel of a different
caliber.
3D
printers are potentially something like a manufacturing black box
that can create any sort of weapon of a limited size almost
immediately. There are many other uses for 3D printers of course. It
will be useful to recognize that several gun laws will become
obsolete as universal 3D printers and electro-magnetic accelerated
bullets become ubiquitous. Perhaps other ways of preventing gun
crimes should be pursued, such as greater accuracy in personal
security for every individual citizen of the United States
