Increase of Private Prisons Afer the Cold War

During the first term of the Clinton administration the number of people in prison first reached one million. In 1990 comparatively the number incarcerated in state and federal prisons was about 750,000. A report by the Bureau of Justice and a statistician said surprisingly that the rise wasn't because of longer prison sentences, it was for increased violence by white and drug use increase by blacks. One could consider the new technologies of cell phones and proliferation of automobiles as common infrastructure for new organized crime as well as the surge of Latino criminal gangs tied in to the over-the-border underworld. People learned to make their own meth in field cookeries all over the country also helping support non-rational criminal outbreaks.

http://www.nytimes.com/1997/08/08/us/in-90-s-prison-building-by-states-and-us-government-surged.html

The report goes on to say that most prisons were under court orders to limit over-crowding in prisons. After the cold war the United States tried to cut back on federal spending that had increased during the Reagan administration. Few in Congress were willing to spend to build more Federal prisons when the public debt was already trillions and trillions (it is now about 20 trillion dollars)

After the end of the cold war increasing the number of government workers in publicly financed prison wasn't popular as it would require increased taxation. This essay isn't the place to examine the public economics issues, yet privatization was more popular than increasing government bureaucracy during the 1990s right until the present day. It goes without saying that government, legislative and Executive management of the federal budget is never good. Philosophically speaking, politicians are quite unenlightened regarding economic philosophy and rely upon truisms and stereotype postures inspired by Ayn Rand or Karl Marx as the case may be.
The Clinton administration brought about the beginning of a covert-overt moral decay following atheism, evolution theory and moral relativism that brought youth toward maturity in an 'anything goes' social environment. The lessons of Dewey and Nietzsche were taken up by the broadcast media. In Sacramento not only did Rush Limbaugh start in broadcasting, at least one radio station played with calling itself radio Satan. There were numerous mass school shootings in the U.S.; previously mostly unheard of. Drug use around the nation was rampant. The baby boomers raised their kids to be a me generation. Tens of millions of illegal aliens were still surging into the U.S.A. during the late 80s and 90s. Globalism and a failure of patriotism, unconcern for the advantages and responsibilities of being an U.S. citizen were more tributaries to a river of anomie called by one scholar 'the age of fracture'. Minorities and rap culture occasionally regarded prison as a home away from home eschewing shoelaces outside the walls because they are forbidden inside the walls. Drug use and sales were regarded as ways for upward economic mobility, especially as good jobs were sent out of the nation and the Wall Street rich concentrated national wealth and served as examples of the philosophy of personal egoism ethically. Christian moral influence declined nationally for a number of reasons.
Private prisons or prisons for profit seem to fit in more with the political outlook of the nation today. They need not necessarily be bad or set up to just make a profit by increasing in-flow and cutting costs. If the judiciary and legislature require certain good contractual or empirical parameters for prisons to earn government contracts then they shall find a way to accomplish and cohere to those parameters. Private prisons can be in effect experimental corrections facilities more readily than a government establishment anyway. A new prison costs tens of millions just to build much less staff and in has a hard time changing its physical infrastructure once built. Private prisons alternatively can close with no cost to the public. The private sector can produce buildings at lower cost and satisfy well-written government contracts, with those able to win perhaps already possessing the right assets for the contracts before bidding. Private prisons may today have grave faults, yet that is more the fault of the government for not designing good theoretical corrections facilities that the private prison corporation must follow if it wants to have a contract.
One obvious parameter concerns correction and recidivism rates. Government can require low recidivism rates for private corrections contractors for renewal of contract.
The growth of iprisoners in private prisons both state and federal has begun a slow decline from its high around 2013 when approximately 135,000 people were held. The crime rate too has decline a bit since then.http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2017/04/11/u-s-private-prison-population-has-declined-in-recent...

Retributive Punishment in the Evolution of History

Retributive justice is condign punishment for crimes. Every era has some sort of governing theory of punishment-or several, that are applied. If people use their honest best theory in the era, it may be difficult to find fault with it. If obvious injustice in punishment or correction occurs such that people know it is wrong, then it is wrong. Plainly a continuing quest for improvement in corrections and response to criminal activity is in the best interest of society ( more of a utilitarian concern though).
Secular laws according to various theories of retributive or utilitarian punishment were formed to control non-conformists to legal parameters of social behavior. Some regard them as heartless and so retributive forms are morphed by reformers increasingly into empirical social contracts for progenitors of acceptable sin training for convicts to train them to support secular political powers. That is, they haven’t been designed by those with the laws of God written upon their hearts and minds. They have hearts of stone instead of flesh and minds that are not born of the spirit. I support a more modern synthetic approach to corrections for crimes than retribution. Simple retributive justice may be ineffective except in time of war or civil disorder when summary execution may be required for survival. There are too many people shot out of the canon of life that are incapable of understanding why they are in jail instead of at Harvard. Correction can inform them why, whereas retribution probably won't.
The roles of punishment are to prevent, deter, correct and/or cause suffering to perpetrators of crimes. Durkheim, besides writing the first study of suicide, regarded crime as having some positive value; largely that it supported social change. Yet not all social change is good, some is bad. If for example there were cannibals in Wisconsin that wanted to eat their neighbors , that would not be a positive social change for the good though it would be criminal. Criminal activity rather than reason and social advise and consent to change laws serves revolutionary ends regarding the established governing powers. It is consistent with fascist methods to get what is wanted.
When some laws are unjust or appear so to large numbers of people, that enfilades the nature of social power and control by the ruling sovereign power. Not all people were in agreement with those within ruling power in virtually every nation in the history of man.
In democracy people theoretically try to improve justice and the efficiency of government so that it may function well yet not impinge the personal rights of individuals. Different forms of government may have different theories of punishment, such as execution for anti-state activity.
Retributive theories of punishment originate with payment in kind for criminal offenses; Lex talionis. Because it is impossible to have perfect justice with perfect witness, flawless evaluation of the motive for the offense with mind-reading of perps and victims, there are implicit dangers in the principle of eye for an eye retribution.
The video on Lex Talionis related that it actually provided a measure response to crime that was fair and balanced more or less, rather than excessive.
One can imagine sentencing someone to a lifetime of torture for some minor offense in youth as an example of disproportionate retributive punishment. Yet there were moderate position in disproportionate punishment to that were cognizant of kinship relationship and the need to quell violence.
One made read Tacitus’ Germania for examples of Euro-justice in the1st century a.d.
quote from Germania-“Punishments. Administration of Justice. In their councils an accusation may be preferred or a capital crime prosecuted. Penalties are distinguished according to the offense. Traitors and deserters are hanged on trees; the coward, the unwarlike, the man stained with abominable vices, is plunged into the mire of the morass with a hurdle put over him. This distinction in punishment means that crime, they think, ought, in being punished, to be exposed, while infamy ought to be buried out of sight- Lighter offenses, too, have penalties proportioned to them; he who is convicted, is fined in a certain number of horses or of cattle. Half of the fine is paid to the king or to the state, half to the person whose wrongs are avenged and to his relatives. In these same councils they also elect the chief magistrates, who administer law in the cantons and the towns. Each of these has a hundred associates chosen from the people, who support him with their advice and influence.”
At any rate it is worth noting that much of western common law came not from the ancient Middle East or Greece but from Germania and Britain and their traditions of common law such as the Salic Law of King Clovis in the 6th century. Primogeniture shaped many levels of European society unto the late middle ages and beyond.
Quote concerning wounds from the Salic law… “Title XVII. Concerning Wounds.
1. If any one have wished to kill another person, and the blow have missed, he on whom it was proved shall be sentenced to 2500 denars, which make 63 shillings.
2. If any person have wished to strike another with a poisoned arrow, and the arrow have glanced aside, and it shall be proved on him; he shall be sentenced to 2500 denars, which make 63 shillings.
3. If any person strike another on the head so that the brain appears, and the three bones which lie above the brain shall project, he shall be sentenced to 1200 denars, which make 30 shillings.
4. But if it shall have been between the ribs or in the stomach, so that the wound appears and reaches to the entrails, he shall be sentenced to 1200 denars-which make 30 shillings-besides five shillings for the physician's pay.
5. If any one shall have struck a man so that blood falls to the floor, and it be proved on him, he shall be sentenced to 600 denars, which make 15 shillings.
6. But if a freeman strike a freeman with his fist so that blood does not flow, he shall be sentenced for each blow-up to 3 blows-to 120 denars, which make 3 shillings.
Title XVIII. Concerning him who, before the King, accuses an innocent Man.
If any one, before the king, accuse an innocent man who is absent, he shall be sentenced to 2500 denars, which make 63 shillings.”
Plainly Clovis and people of his day regarded monetary punishment significantly. In light of later material in the course concerning for-profit prisons, that money element is important since there were probably many that could not pay. One would need to do historical research to determine what happened to those without money that were convicted. Plainly the advantage for satisfying legal penalties for those convicted was with the aristocracy and nobles of means, rather than those without.
I wanted to write something about Dr. Knight’s video and comments about Genesis and Adam and Eve. There are numerous ways of shaping retributive justive and for thinking about the people deserving punishment or not, and if the punishment was or should be proportionate. Obviously when one does not comprehend what occurred it is difficult to form a kind of post hoc determination of a punishment being just, fair or whatever with any accuracy.
Dr, Knight’’s account of the fall from the Garden as “a tiny peccadillo” and just eating a fruit plainly was an interpretation of a man without faith in God. He regarded it as a small crime and the killing of Cain by Abel as a large one.
Adam and Eve in the Garden is one of the most interesting stories of the Bible. They incurred correction for the original sin of eating of the tree of knowledge. For those of actual faith in God that was a real fall from grace. The correction was addition of all the characteristics of becoming a biological being in a thermodynamic system with all of the drives inherent across the animal kingdom.
God was concerned that eating of the tree of knowledge had made the disobedient pair ‘as little gods’. He constrained their existence to the temporal Universe therefor before they could also eat of the tree of eternal life and become real problems. That criterion is quite different than the secular and even atheist paradigm that Dr. Knight put forward.
Dr. Knight also did not believe in the divine origin of the Decalogue. He did not regard it as being delivered unto Moses who prophesied essentially that a man of whom King David fit the role would dwell upon the writings day and night. Moses probably invented Hebrew writing and commissioned the writing of works that became the Pentateuch when assembled in the Court of Solomon or Rehoboam formally (and redacted latter).

Wouldn't Beijing Be Nuked Same TIme As Pyongyang if Things Escalate?

One wonders if the Chinese leaders are disciplined enough to not expand the war beyond the three capitals should a nuclear exchange transpire in the future. Beijing has not placed good enough sanctions on North Korea and probably hopes they vaporize D.C. so Beijing can be number one in world trade. Beijing and its nuclear threat of retaliation on the United States should D.C. choose to vaporize Pyongpang before it vaporizes Washington, makes it North Korea's real sponsor for nuclear terrorism on the United States from Paramount Dictator Kim Jong Un and his communist dong missiles.

China without Beijing might be a more peaceful, gentler place with better democracy. Evn in the most dark cloud, silver lining may emerge like shiny fortune cookie.

Should Joe Lieberman Be WH Commo Director?

With the removal of White House communications director Scarmucci from his job after ten days the White House needs to find a secure, reliable and capable individual to olay that role. Maybe Jeff Goldblum or Joe Lieberman could fit the bill.

Personally I believe that someone like former Alaska Republican senate candidate Joe Miller (lost to Lisa Murkowski in 2010) who is a former federal judge, Yale law graduate and University of Alaska-Fairbanks M.A. in economics with a silver star from Desert Storm when he was an Army officer, could serve reasonably well.

There is always reliable billionaire Ophrah WInfree,Charley Gibson or Juan WIlliams to ask if the White House feels it is in trouble.

Murkowskicare; Next Dysfunctional Health Plan Up?

Senators Murkowski, Collins and McCain seemed to have fated the U.S.A. to have some sort of Obamacare light ahead. Senator Murkowski at least has some few thousands of people that use the Obamacare exchanges (maybe 23,000) and the expanded Medicare coverage. Yet Obamacare should be entirely scrapped (repealed) and replaced with a tripled V.A. hospital system that covers all vets and poor civilians too (maybe 40 million people) with direct, free medical services without using insurance at all.

Shouldn't all government medical care be abolished to avoid communism? Government workers should then be free to buy their own from private insurers. If government is to provide medical support to the public shouldn't it be the poor that are first covered? What if F.D.R. had designed social security to benefit people from the top-down but realistically excluded the poorest of the poor?

That can never happen id Murkowski care forces a cheap Obamacare into law leaving no one satisfied. Murkowskicare would bloat the nation’s budget and still not cover the millions of the very poor that fall through the cracks because they aren’t sedentary enough to remain on just one state bureaucratic surveillance-ministry of control screens.

Obamacare was designed to enrich corporations and provide cheap stuff for working women and homosexuals in addition to the middle class that have exhausted insurance benefits.

Deciding what those people should pay for and how they should collectively negotiate with insurance corporations should be an issue entirely separate from hat of covering the most poor and veterans with free walk-in service without documentation besides a valid state ID card and federal tax record of poverty the year or three before.

Lisa Murkowski votes Democrat on most of the controversial issues, yet support oil development too. Her interest is in satisfying cross over voters and cross dressers too, rather than any sort of concern about the fate of the national budget or the very poor of the U.S.A.

Germans Against New Russian Sanctions; Fallout from U.S. Decision

Polls show that the majority of Germans; the EU leadership in effect, are against the new U.S. sanctions forced by congress upon Russia. They were an unnecessary and belligerent step toward resurrecting the cold war.

Most people want good Russia-Trump relations rather than bad. The Democrat party requires a foreign villain however, and Russia is the choice. That probably works well for Democrat party leadership in the Harvard Business School Alumni network too. They wanted to pick over the carcass of the old Soviet Union like it was a thanksgiving turkey, and there are still plenty of sandwiches remaining.

For the United States the sanctions will have the consequence of drawing Europe and Russia closer together. The tectonic plates of the two regions will slide over one another and raise a new Alps (only joking here). Russian and European economies can work together along with China to leave the US. as a rather daft 3rd party and outsider unable to actually have an independent, non-fossil fuel based energy infrastructure and economics, gasping for breath, desirous of new Russian rockets to take them to the moon.

Seriously though, the sanctions should be ended rather than increased. The U.S.A. will be the loser as it builds new problems over-there.

Alaska D.E.C. Should Closely Monitor Nitrogen Sources for Yukon and Kuskokwim Rivers

There are a number of ways that human activity increase nitrogen running off into rivers. Dead zones can develop with too much nitrogen build up and that is bad for fishing.

In the long run, not just over-fishing and direct habitat destruction from road building and mining activity bring ruin to fisheries, nitrogen as well as acidification each challenge life in rivers and possibly oceans to exist.

It is easy to imagine a great river like the Yukon accumulating over time myriad new sources of nitrogen input from farming and fertilizer, auto exhaust etc. Downstream the Bering Sea could be the immediate casualty as well as the river itself. It would be great if public land use designers could anticipate these temporal ‘externalities’ to various business and recreational activity that bring about dead zones in the long run.

Astronauts Can Excrete Their Own Cosmic Ray Shield in Space

Manure can produce heat in deep quantity. If thick enough surrounding a water tank it can heat the water even in Siberia. In space, human manure can be produced by astronaughts and used to screen out harmful cosmic rays. Gradually filling the empty space between bulkheads on a space station, with human manure, as food stores are depleted the cosmic ray shield ca be completed.

Cosmic rays may be stopped by a 15' thick barrier of water or ice. Frozen manure should work equally well

If the space-ship is a 2001-style circle with spokes and the manure fills the outer edge, it might be adapted to be a large  electricity-producing alternator with a complex of magnetic coils around a central alternator. If enough mass is built into the perimeter shield wall and the wheel is rotating quickly enough maybe some artifical gravity could be made.

Retribution for the High Priestess of the OIl god in Alaska

Murkowski Put Alaska on Wrong Side of Administration and Repubican Party

Retribution for Senator Murkowski’s now vote on the repeal of Obamacare put Alaska on the wrong side of the Republican administration the next four years. With just 23,000 enrolled in Obamacare in Alaska it is questionable if placing the interests of a tiny minority above that of the nation was really a good idea. There probably were alternative ways to provide medical services to those people.

The President has indicated a willingness to exact retribution. Maybe Alaskan-interest votes in Congress the next few years will fall flat as Republicans remember the Mankowski vote that was critical for the fail of repeal. Republicans should have expected the Senator’s vote though since she is elected by Democrats in Alaska that recognize one of their own.

President Trump’s best target for revenge is of course revenue sharing that he can delay or cancel, redistribute to build the wall with solar panels. Beyond that canceling any plans for expansion of the oil patch in Alaska on federal lands is a possible method. If President Trump really wants to hurt the Alaska Murkowski people he can channel all federal energy support to wind, solar, fuel cells and especially geothermal power development in Alaska. Working against the oil-people in Alaska is the best way to get someone besides Lisa Murkowski elected in the next cycle. In fact that’s about the only way. Alaska politicians are like Neanderthals that worship the oil god. She is a high priestess of devotees, and if they discern the oil god is unhappy with her performance she will be cancelled.

Sen. Murkowski fundamentally is a democrat with loyalty to oil and global warming. She had to vote with Democrats to get democrats to help re-elect her. Republicans are paying the price for not electing Joe Miller or the next one (who was that guy?), yet the media like her, legal dope, homosexual marriage, abortion and cold war with Russia too. She probably won't even protect the Yukon and Bering Sea from increasing nitrogen input and those dead zones for fish that follow.

Tripling the V.A. from 9 million to 30 million Americans served and expanding federal support to community clinics for the poor (the latter was in the bill) is better for the poor than Obama-Nixon care. When Nixon suggested corporate health insurance back in the day, Demos wanted a British style universal hospital plan. Republicans in the Senate are likely to remember Sen. Murkowski's vote a decade or so. Bad timing for an era with Republicans in the White House and Congress.

Do E-Cars Need Extended Range Battery Cart?

Tesla Model 3 and the Chevy Volt are fine e-cars and close to being affordable, yet they probably should be able to tow a two-wheeled e-charge battery cart to double the range of the vehicle, or even have fuel cell elements to make elecricity at remote locations.

People used to take extra gas in jerry cans with them. E Cars should be able to recharge themselves if they need to, such as if driving from Watson Lake past Destruction Bay to Beaver Creek.

For Profit Prisons- Corrupt or Not?

Fundamentally arresting the innocent or violating constitutional rights of individuals for the economic advantageof the corrupt seems to be the largest problem. Yet I disagree that privately operated prisons are inherently evil, though I am no expert.
If the Judiciary were privately run then their would be an enourmous problem that ends democracy I would think. Yet private contractors responding to government contracts should create efficiency, and the contracts need not be extended if their performance was poor.
Maybe the largest problem is that the government writes poor contracts that don't reward private prisons for performance or take away money for high recidivism rates. Rpsions that produce excelent 'graduates' should be rewarded.
The private sector is supposed to produce better products or services through competition and the profit motive. If government officials writing contracts are stupid or corrupt they wouldn't even know what sort of results to reward or penalize.
Governments like to expand in size too. Government jobs are fundamentally the best-paying and safest bet for ordinary people to work for with good retirement and health benefits, good pay and easy hours. Building more public prisons staffed by union workers is very expensive and difficult to change or close too-probably more difficult to shut down than a private prison.
The corruption of the old south before the end of peopnage, involuntary servitude, share cropping, work gangs and reconstruction era neo-slavery in for-profit subjegation was a terible offense against democracy. Plainly history shows that different cultures merging can be brutal and slow to change. Before modern technology it was challenging even to communicate well from city to city for many people. That social isolation allowed the corrupt to flourish and corrupt organizations to prosper. Nearly all human social organizations seek to increase in size and power. People occupy roles in organizations with inertai drive seeking to be materially rewarded and secure.
Free enterprise given ome liberty to experiement with the means and methods to deliver select reform criteria may produce better results than govenrmnet thinkers that have largely failed to generate satisfactory results so far.
Many have noted that drug dealers often called low level go to jail a lot. No one has commented that illegual mind-altering drugs cause brain damage in people, and that altered brains and thought can drive people to commit crimes-even if they are not drug sales crimes. Stopping the epidemic of brain damage; opiod use cause brain damage and even marijuana is believed to damage white matter-the corpus callosum connecting the haves of the brain together.

Science Wrong About the Bible Again (On Canaanites)

A Science article claims the Bible says the Canaanites were wiped out, and scientists have examined D.N.A. from the era showing that millions of people exist descended from Canaanites. They want to prove the Bible wrong- an unscientific motive that creates glee in the godless atheist left branch of scientists (maybe a majority).

Scientists often interpret scripture in a way that suits them in order to refute it. In other words they create a straw man fallacy and beat that.

In Deuteronomy God commands the Chosen people to wipe out the sinful nations- 7 of them, already occupying the land that today is known as Israel. It was made plain that the Jews weren't supposed to fraternize or merge with the Canaanites even a little bit-hence the harsh language. Reason and scripture would indicate there would be lots of survivors. The Jews just couldn’t perfectly fulfill divine commands in the case as elsewhere. In

Incidentally the 7 Canaanite cities represent 7 sins. Canaanite is said to mean ‘merchants’. I suppose one could compare that to Wall Street. I will post the passage about the order...

Deuteronomy 7King James Version (KJV)

"7 When the Lord thy God shall bring thee into the land whither thou goest to possess it, and hath cast out many nations before thee, the Hittites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than thou;
And when the Lord thy God shall deliver them before thee; thou shalt smite them, and utterly destroy them; thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor shew mercy unto them:
Neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son.
For they will turn away thy son from following me, that they may serve other gods: so will the anger of the Lord be kindled against you, and destroy thee suddenly.
But thus shall ye deal with them; ye shall destroy their altars, and break down their images, and cut down their groves, and burn their graven images with fire.
For thou art an holy people unto the Lord thy God: the Lord thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth.
The Lord did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people:
But because the Lord loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the Lord brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.
Know therefore that the Lord thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations;
10 And repayeth them that hate him to their face, to destroy them: he will not be slack to him that hateth him, he will repay him to his face.
11 Thou shalt therefore keep the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments, which I command thee this day, to do them.
12 Wherefore it shall come to pass, if ye hearken to these judgments, and keep, and do them, that the Lord thy God shall keep unto thee the covenant and the mercy which he sware unto thy fathers:
13 And he will love thee, and bless thee, and multiply thee: he will also bless the fruit of thy womb, and the fruit of thy land, thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep, in the land which he sware unto thy fathers to give thee."

It's lucky that scientists don't actually read the Bible, or know that in Isaiah 17:9 it says that the Moabites were driven away leaving because of desolation. Moab was another problem nation adjacent to the lost Canaanite ctiy-nations (7 nations wiped out).

Even if Israel had defeated and destroyed as many Canaanites as they could during the conquest, there would still have been numerous rural Canaanite survivors that would have decided moving away is a good idea. I feel sure that God new the Jews could not accomplish genocide; not even having tracking drones to blast escaping fugitives.

Some scientists should use a little reason when addressing the Bible, and at least have a fair idea what's in it-even if not what it means, and try using a Google search before publishing in prestigious scientific journals.

Isaiah 17:9-11King James Version (KJV)

"9 In that day shall his strong cities be as a forsaken bough, and an uppermost branch, which they left because of the children of Israel: and there shall be desolation.
10 Because thou hast forgotten the God of thy salvation, and hast not been mindful of the rock of thy strength, therefore shalt thou plant pleasant plants, and shalt set it with strange slips:
11 In the day shalt thou make thy plant to grow, and in the morning shalt thou make thy seed to flourish: but the harvest shall be a heap in the day of grief and of desperate sorrow."

That Chapter of U.S. History Most Don't Know

Usually I don't watch T.V. So I missed one interesting P.B.S. documentary on a form of slavery that continued after the civil war, in the south. What happened was prisons for profit were invented, and freed slaves having a hard time getting a job were often snared for vagrancy or other petty offenses and given crazy sentences on the chain gang for a sheriff or leased to mining and other corporations.

http://www.pbs.org/show/slavery-another-name/

That was a big business and continued until 1923...a little too recently.

Humanity has always discovered ways to procure cheap or free labor. Illegal aliens are the big item now for exploiters looking to pay below legal minimum wage.

The mortality rate of the neo-slaved blacks (it was usually black labor) was nearly 50%. As someone pointed out, slave owners cared about their investment staying alive somewhat, while leased slaves provided by for-profit legal procurers might have been regarded as nearly disposable since leased workers could be replaced for free.

President Trump isn't a Team Player

Donald Trump is a lone-wold capitalist to such an extent that he is willing to publicly attack a cabinet member; A.G. Sessions, without his election would have been improbable. At a time in the campaign when much of the nation including the Harvard Business Review believed Trump was losing for all of his wild talk, Senator Sessions was one of the very few credible supporters he had.

Being a strong individual is most often a good thing, yet in criticizing Sessions as an extension of his own defense from various attackers and accusers the President has failed to discern friend from foe.

In recusing himself A.G. Sessions put himself beyond creating an impression of a conflict of interest. President Trump seems to want to attack and fire people to end the Russia problem when the only solid way is to let the Mueller investigation take its course and to let the Congress approve his new F.B.I. Director in due time, with due diligence, as if the government was working normally and no urgency existed for the President to cover up pigeon drops and sex trysts with Russian agents smeared in caviar.

Jeff Sessions has tried to stand by the President and do what is right regarding public interest in the probably specious Russia claims, yet the President seems no teamwork anywhere that he should work with and just enemies down the tube, like a bull with tunnel vision kicking against the pricks.

The really hostile media love it as the President himself pours gasoline on the flames of those seeking to politically burn him at the stake.

On Solitary Confinement

Solitary confinement is used to control the violent, to protect the vulnerable and to prevent communication amongst organized crime and revolutionaries seeking to destroy the state.

I should say that I disagree with the move against solitary confinement and the opinion that ending it would be a good thing. Having spent quite a lot of time myself in social isolation for various reasons, I highly value time alone at least when not starving or in pain from toothaches or other health issues.

One may be isolated walking down a crowded street as one is aware that so many people are rather thoughtless proles going about their lives without philosophical examination. One may discover that people are often as dehumanized as rude robots going about their commercial roles. One may feel relief in being absent from the daily hate.

Perhaps women and organized crime dislike isolation and solitude more than men with good books to read. Maybe the educated enjoy solitude more than political activists such as the lady that made the two videos.

Incarceration with human rights taken away of freedom is the great offense, and that must be done with grave concern for justice, while solitary confinement can be made, with modern technology a very positive experience for many. It is the lack of sober moderation in the configuration of solitary confinement criteria that brings it to crash or ineffectively reform prisoners. Just as in rash or extreme aircraft design that might crash a product when flown, it is not useful to end a fundamentally good idea because the delivery or activation was badly or ineffectively put together.

With the right software and hardware provided to a captive in isolation he or she might not even feel very isolated. I think the designers of Eastern State Prison were basically on the right track yet a couple of centuries pre-mature. Saturated with a wealth of carefully screened internet programs prisoners might learn a tremendous amount of their own free will. Maybe a prison-safe virtual reality headset cout let those in isloation visit Mars.

In the United States much is made by the left of the racial disparity between blacks, whites and Hispanics. Consider though that ending slavery was something like ending feudalism centuries before. Millions were thrown into a new social and property paradigm. In the United States that mass economic anomie occurred again with the end of Jim Crow laws, and black Americans had no great and general intellectual and professional institutions or structure to guide the young.

Consider also that in the past 20 years more than 90% of U.S. population growth has been non-white. The media age of white women is nearly beyond child bearing age while that of Hispanics in right in the prime. With white society aging and a minority of children being born are white, it is not unreasonable to expect that a youthful, vigorous and under-educated population including millions of immigrants with poor English language skills would have a majority of the prison population.

I suppose the question is to what extent those Americans of fairly sedentary European cultural origin historically should be concerned about the future of an emerging non-white majority that is restive, desirous of material wealth and social power, and less concerned about the well-being of the ecosphere.

Another point of interet interest is that a godless society led by leftist evolutionists, and in the future with larger number of Muslim immigrants, may not share Christian values such as were found in American white culture until recent times when the left especially waged social war upon it.

Maybe the most offensive thing about the paradigm of imprisonment is that it might be thought good to force behavioral modification of subjects rather than to provide them the tools and resources to change voluntarily. The idea is not good, yet good ideas that were premature in delivery should not be discarded arbitrarily.

Finally One Nation Will Ban Sales of New Fossil Fuel Burning Cars

Britain took the first step toward banning sales of new fossil fuel vehicles, finally leading where others fear to tread. Of course the measure won’t start until the present generation of politicians are mostly dead (in 2040). Even so right-thinking nations that honor Churchill instead of Hitler’s legacy should line up with Britain as an ally of Earth and ecospheric sustainability instead of the new Nazis building an atmospheric gas chamber for those to poor to move off-whirld and genetically re-engineered dinosaurs that vote Democrat.

If Trump Was Really Crazy (Trump vs Mayweather)

The American Psychoanalytic Association said that its members no longer need to follow the Goldwater Rule and are free to talk about Donald Trump's real or imagined mental state. It's good to know that psychiatrist can call a crazy a crazy, a spade a spade or a political foe crazy.

Donald Trump seems to be crazy in the sense that he tends to punch and counter punch verbally a lot against political and economic rivals and those he wants to subordinate coercively. It is hard to call that really crazy. Its like someone that will always punch someone that hits them, and occasionally throw a first strike. Probably the President showers and bathes several times a year and hasn't a distinctive body odur.

One might ask however, if President Trump is said to be a mental in a state, can it make any difference in comparison to the usual politics of Washington? Besides, if the President is really a member of the open air lunatic asylum of the U.S.A. known as a psych nigger plantation would it be constitutional to discriminate against the President for being crazy? The American Disabilities Act is more often observed in theory than reality, and it is hard for people with labels to find employment unless providing a mea culpa for craziness.

If the President admits he is crazy will the media quit with the Russia probes? It the American Psychiatric Association has a majority of crazy members does that controvert their finding at all? If the media is the most crazy and dopish of all the shingle scams with trickery, sophist speech and collusion, are they immune from recognition as criminally insane lunatics now and then?

The Brideswell Prisons

in 1655 the first 'house of correction, named the Brideswell, was built in London to put 'idlers, vagabonds' and sundry poor people thought to be up to no good, to forced work and incarceration. Numerous such facilities were built around England. According to one article the distinction between those 'poorhouses' and prisons was abolished in 1865.
Karl Marx, a fair social observer, commented in Das Kapital that a vast number of rural people were kicked off rural holdings to be forced into the city to work in factories of the industrial revolution. That would have increased problems of urban life, social strife and poverty obviously.
In the United States, in New York, a very famous Brideswell Prison was built by the British to incarcerate American prisoners of war with extreme and harsh conditions. The Provost Marshall of British prisoners admitted straving 2000 patriots to death and executing 275 outright for being obnoxious persons.
The Brits reopened the prison during the War of 1812 when they occupied N.Y.C.

Arron Burr fled to avoid being incarcerated in the Brideswell.

With Rose Aboard Shouldn't Irving Stay WIth Cavs a Year?

The Cavs with James, Rose and Love could make a serious run at the title with Kyrie Irving aboard too. If he wants to be well known, as Scottie Pipin was with the Bulls , or Dennis Rodman, he ought to stay with James a year and win a title.

Some may have been put off by being in Michael Jordan's shadow however the really good players were never bothered by such concerns. For them winning was everything.

If it all falls through in a year then Irving should think about getting traded to Sacramento or Memphis to be a star.

Sketching the Ancient History of Prisons

Prisons were not too rare in ancient times yet to the extent they were it was because only select classes could be imprisoned . As democracy spread the franchise of imprisonment increased too replacing former forced labor, serfdom, slavery and death as punishments for the masses from above. A modern understanding of what prisons are may distort the view of history though. One recalls the Apostle Paul's time in prison as well as John the Baptist. Prisons occupy a niche however for political systems that must treat a select class of subjects or citizens with some human rights, and not just send them into slavery or the slave galleys, salt mine until death or wherever the authorities sent them.
The Romans developed prisons and a famous one was the Mamertine Prison created by Ancus Marius in 640 a.d., and was in a sewer and dungeons beneath Rome.
In the Middle Ages numerous prisons existed where hostages and subjects were kept by the ruling class for various reasons. Famous prisons in England included the dungeons of Pontefraact Castle mentioned by Shakespeare in Richard III and Caernarfon Castle's dungeons established in the 13th century. Switzerland had the notorius Chillon Castle dungeon and of course during the 16th and 17th centuries the Bastille Prison in Paris that had been converted from a fort.
Some local gaols or jails kept prisoners for a very long time. The author John Bunyan was kept in the local Bedford town gaol for a dozen years for preaching without a license. Butyrka prison in Moscow is referenced as existing in the 1600s and probably was used to incarcerate individuals from social classes that could not be sent to forced labor camps or converted into serfs. Chateau d'If in France held religious and political prisoners from 1634 to apprx. 1899. One shouldn't overlook the Tower of London or lesser known places of captivity such as Warwick Castle.

Jeff Sessions; Considering a 2020 Run for the White House?

Jeff Sessions; A 2020 Presidential Candidate?

With President Trump trying to ditch him for having the integrity to recuse himself and for not sending Hillary to Gitmo for questioning, the question arises about Jeff Sessions future plans. Would that include a 2020 independent campaign for the White House?

With at least half of a solid ticket it is possible that a good, populist, nationalist Republican running with Sessions could win a primary against the weak President that could not end sanctions on Russia, couldn’t get Obamacare repealed, who failed to protect wolves and critical Alaska habitat, who did not get solar panels on the wall with Mexico, and who hasn’t got any sort of firm program to build a moon base for permanent human scientific research habitation and who let Kim IL develop a smörgÃ¥sbord of nuclear weapons and ICBMs to erase Washington DC in the years ahead when America needs to clear house in Congress.

Jeff Sessions with the right green candidate could change the face of American politics. It’s interesting stuff to think about. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amory_Lovins
